Operated by The Tasmanian Canine Defence league Post Office box 7, Lindisfarne  TAS  7015 Located at 101 Scotts Road, Risdonvale Phone: (03) 6243 5177 The Home is open daily from 10.00am to 5.00pm.  Public holidays 10am -1.00pm ADOPTIONS There are a wide variety of dogs and puppies available for adoption at the Dogs’ Home. All dogs and puppies are vet checked, vaccinated, temperament tested ,desexed and microchipped prior to adoption. When you adopt a dog from the Dogs’ Home, you not only give this dog a second chance but you also gain a life-long friend. LOST and FOUND DOGS

If you lose your dog or if you find a dog, telephone the Dogs’ Home immediately and leave all the details about the dog with the receptionist.  This is a busy phone so please keep trying. Ph:6243 5177.

The Dogs’ Home is the official pound for the Clarence, Glenorchy, Hobart and Brighton municipalities.

If your lost dog is not at the pound, phone every two days. Have a photo of your dog that you can leave at the Dogs’ Home to help with identification.

The Dog Control Act requires the owner of an impounded dog to pay a maintenance fee which covers the daily care of their pet whilst at the pound, a release fee and a registration fee if the dog is not currently registered.

 If you have lost your dog, also contact the Animal Control Officer at your local Council, your local Vet, and the RSPCA.

Your dog may have been injured.  Help us to help you by having your pet registered and attaching the registration disc to your dog’s collar.

A dog not wearing a registration disc is held in the pound for 3 working days.
A registered dog is held for 5 working days.
Micro-chipping is also available & this provides permanent ID.

Most dogs not reclaimed by their owners are made available for adoption to new homes. Sadly, some dogs have to be euthanized as a result of their stress or trauma, poor health, or if exhibiting aggression towards people.

How can I help the Dogs’ Home?

All our dogs and puppies need suitable  bedding  such as old blankets or jumpers. If you’re having a clean out at home, please consider donating these types of items to the Dogs’ Home.

If you love dogs - VOLUNTEER

Become a volunteer dog walker and provide dogs with much needed exercise and social contact.  If you can dedicate a few hours regularly each week, then phone the Dogs’ Home and organise your orientation session on 62435177.

Other Ways to Help

If you have special skills in areas such as dog grooming, artwork, photography or writing,
please consider using these skills to help the Dogs’ Home.  If you can help staff information booths at fairs/community events,  join our Volunteer Team.

Become a member of the Tasmanian Canine Defence League - a non-profit animal welfare organisation which operates the Hobart, Burnie and Devonport Dogs’ Homes.
