Volunteers
If you love dogs become a Volunteer Dog Walker. Dog Walkers play a vital role in exercising and caring for Dogs’ Home dogs.
How does it work?
Having completed your orientation and
training session, you are ready to begin walking the dogs.
If you are able to make a
regular commitment to dog walking, please add your name to the Dog Walkers’
Roster.
If not, any amount of
time that you feel able to give is much appreciated by both dogs and staff.
Dogs are walked one at a
time. Choose dogs that you feel comfortable with in terms of size and strength.
You are encouraged to
work as a team with another walker. This is important when there are two dogs in
one pen.
Dog walkers are supplied with sunscreen, a dog walker’s badge and wet weather gear if required.

Volunteer Dog Walkers provide
dogs with much needed exercise and social contact.
To meet occupational health and safety requirements, prospective dog walkers
undertake a two hour orientation and training session and a tour of the Dogs’
Home.
These sessions are held monthly.
To book your orientation and training session
phone the Hobart Dogs’ Home on 62435177.
Office hours are 10am-5pm daily.
Volunteer Dog Walkers must be aged 16 years or over. Children aged 13-16 years
may walk dogs but must be accompanied by a responsible and trained
adult. Special restrictions apply to children under 13 years of age.
